Heavy drinkers of coffee are more prone to hallucinations

Heavy drinkers of coffee have more hallucinations than normal consumers, says a British study published Wednesday.

People who drink more than seven cups of coffee a day are three times more likely to hear voices that people are limited to about a cup, says the survey conducted by psychologists at the University of Durham, north-east England.

The researchers point out, however, have not established a direct link between caffeine and hallucinations, warning that heavy coffee drinkers may already have a personality more prone to these disorders.

"The Further studies are needed to determine whether coffee consumption, and food in general has an impact on what kind of hallucination, "said Charles Fernyhough, co-author of the study, published in the journal" Personality and Individual Differences ".
