Since some breweries show a widespread excellence, we devote some more detailed pages and spend breweries exception. We promised to use the blog for The Runner Drink some updates to this evolving content.

In this context, only two interventions, we will introduce a new brewery exception Hill Farmstead, microbrewery end of the campaign in Vermont.

Coordinates:

HILL Farmstead

How do we get:

beers are still difficult to obtain. The easiest way is through private imports Bièropholie. Over the years, this club is private imports to spend two to three orders per year with this exceptional brewery. This is a rare opportunity to get some exclusive bottles.

Otherwise, you can obviously go there. The view is lovely, but the road may be long. Allow at least two hours from Montreal, excluding customs and plan a designated driver. The tasting room open from Wednesday to Saturday, noon to 17h. Attention, it is very easy to get lost in the country roads near the farm.

Alternatively, some bars offer Vermont Farmstead Hill products on tap. The

better positioned for beer lovers are Farmhouse Tap & Grill (160 Bank St., Burlington) and Black Back Bars and Fly Shop (1 Stowe St., Waterbury)

To continue this story, we suggest you take format that was used for the brewing of emergency in La Route des Grands Crus de Beer - Quebec and New England.

Characteristics:

The concept of this farmhouse brewery in the Belgian way we like to start, but others may be rubbed with less success. It may be worth the trouble to visit the history of the instigator of the project to understand the peculiarity of this project.

The brewer, Shaun Hill, learned the ropes in his early twenties at Trout River. But it is at The Shed, Stowe, he began to experiment more and to establish its main niche now that fuel its international reputation. At Stowe, Shaun was one of the leading brewers in North-East of the Americas to produce a range of India Pale Ales worthy of those found on the west coast deeply aromatic with a substantial and hopping including cereals, fresh and honest, but subtle and dry, never encroach on the hop anthem. In parallel, under the influence of Southampton, and other Ommegang Mckenzie, he had fallen under the spell of the season, this beer thirst Belgian yeast character marked. He developed a wide range of beers at The Standard Season Shed, which has attracted the attention of many fans at festivals. The limited distribution of this brew-pub has been mixed enthusiasm for beer of The Shed.

Young and mobile, Shaun then took off for Denmark, who lived and still lives a revolution brewing probably even more dynamic than that of Quebec. Danes confessed look for in a master brewer Shaun American specialist in the use of hops. No doubt that Shaun could lead a great career, but homesickness overcame him and he returned to the family farm to build his own brewery and restore the prestige of one of the oldest families in Vermont. The result: Hill Farmstead, which, from its height a few months of existence, already produced an impressive number of masterpieces. The breweries we have so charmed during their first year of operation can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Needless to say, that demand outstrips supply.

There certainly manages to charm the imagination in this story of a young prodigy who could conquer the world on the road, but which, with good values, wanted to ennoble the family honor by going back up his own business in his homeland.

A magical moment:

Given the young age of the brewery, we have not yet had the opportunity to live the masses, but the Winter Gathering

early February 2011 we has hinted at the level of excellence already unusual for this exceptional brewery. Moreover, the young age of the brewer and its many international contacts allow us to anticipate collaborations and daring creations. We already salivating.

Areas of Excellence:

Hill Farmstead Brewery is already shining on several fronts. We also believe that this flexibility will increase gradually as the product line develops.

For now, we must recognize that highly hopped ales, Shaun Hill, it is a American Pale Ale, an India Pale Ale or India Pale Ale Imperial are distinguished by their high-flying aroma and impeccable structure. Fresh, they are memorable. Good thing, since the scarcity beers Hill Farmstead, combined with their youth, makes it almost impossible to find one of their beers in a shabby condition.

Meanwhile, Hill Farmstead excels in creating

Farmhouse Ales inspired by the Belgian Saison, rustic and yeasted. However, where the season, although complex, do not search absolutely have to be complicated, Shaun Hill takes a more scientific approach, more tailored, leading him to experiment more with certain strains of wild yeast, bacteria, oak barrels, which contained alcohol in particular. So far, results show an impressive mastery of these advanced techniques.

A future project:

The brewery is still young and has more than one project! The expansion of the brewery to meet increasing demand, the organization of events on the farm, bottling a greater quantity of brew, the acquisition of new barrels, collaborations with fellow brewers .. . Expect beautiful joys if you detour through Greensboro, Vermont.
